Maggy was adopted at the age of six months old by Verity and Mitch Warren. Verity was born and raised in Chelsea, while Mitchell hailed from Northern California. They met when he studied at Oxford for a year. After he left, they continued contact and fell in love via letters. Verity graduated from Oxford and then moved to California. They married within a month.

Verity and Mitch tried to conceive right away, but after a year of failure, her doctor gave her the long face... Verity was able to conceive... but her body failed to recognize it and would abort the fetus. The Warren's were devastated, but life went on. Eventually, they became acquainted with a man who knew of a family in Georgia who was quietly, and privately, adopting out a set of twins for a very reasonable price. Being unable to adopt legally, the Warren's traveled to Georgia and met with the Cook family. One of the twins was already gone, adopted by a wealthy couple from Atlanta, so the Warren's took the other twin home with them. The named her Margaret, after Mitchell's late mother, and gave her the middle name of Verity, like Verity's mother before her.

Maggy was a bright, happy baby and caused very little trouble through her growing up years. She loved to read and write and draw... but as adolescence came upon her, her dark eyes began to look haunted, even afraid. After a few months of that, Verity cornered her now teenage daughter and demanded to know what was wrong. Maggy broke down, weeping as she explained the visions, the nightmares, the things she could see. Mitchell and Verity doubted her and even made an appointment to take her to a psychiatrist until she proved herself by telling them intimate details about their lives, their childhoods, and her own past that there was no possible way for her to know.
